Shawn Rudiman "Odds Against Us"

Shawn Rudiman presents 4 absolute rhythmic delights ranging from industrial-influenced techno to soulful detroit string lines. All of these are done with Rudiman's signature grooves, style and precise production. Flexing his muscles on this release, Shawn gives us a glimpse of his diversity and history with a sense of feeling and authenticity.

A1. Feel Again

Although a laugh starts this cut off, there will be nothing but ecstatic smiles as this tune unleashes Rudiman's well known tricks: driving chords and bass, funky percussion and shimmering pads and strings. The deep choirs take you up and out of life, the strings touch the heart and the beats nail you to the trials of everyday existence. Add it all up for a prime time, energetic, melodic destroyer.

            A2. Ibarra (Ebb and Flow)

We go back to Mr. Rudiman's beginnings and early loves here: EBM. Absolutely RELENTLESS 16th note bass/lead sequences drive this stunner to a frenzy of rhythm. Nasty grooves and minimalist percussive sounds add to the thumping kick drum and sizzling hi-hats. This track perhaps reaffirms the term EBM in classic ways: ELECTRONIC BODY MUSIC.

AA1. Other Sides

Pounding basslines and rumbling kick drums drive this uncompromisingly funky selection to peak energy. Frenetic, yet melancholy chord chops line its interior, while shuffled shakers, floor-driven hi-hats and a slippery vocal sample rotate around the core elements. As with any unstable energy source, this tune will cause a chain reaction that will devastate the dancefloor.

            AA2. Tube City Rockers

A dark, funky and freaky journey into the future - or is it the past? Bassline driven, this electro cut supplies vast amounts of tension, melody and energy. Random analog blips accentuate the oppressive, hoovering synth pads and metallic percussion. Chord changes and insanely funky lead lines peak this track out into the red. Crafted like a pop song, demented like an evil genius, and built like a supermodel, this tune is the robot toy in the bottom of the cereal box.
